Although I havent had a lot of free time to really steep into digitally processed music production over these last years-this summer has uniquely afforded me the opportunity and privilege to explore using ableton Lite and familiarize myself with its potential to make weird shit.

Since I often journal alongside fiddling around with this computer n gearstuff, i often end up making a lot of tangential philosophical notes to myself about the shit im doing. Since this definitely the most electronic thing I have done so far, it made me wonder if there's any of my soul actually inside of this little diddy. and ultimately, i think so. and i think technology has been a part of my human body that ive tried to extend to make authentic creative connections with. so, maybe i am part robot now and this is what some of my songs sound like now and its not actually that terrible (?)

i would note, though, that at the heart of this song is an instrument track that i did create myself by sampling a melody i recorded on harp, so as far as sound design am particularly fixated on using and bridging diy praxis with easily available technology. I also fussed for hours and hours....and hours just learning ableton as i would tinkering with an acoustic or analog instrument....so i think that gives this track some more humanity? Like any instrument or tool used by humanpeople-i think theres a certain push-pull in what you become as a weirlder of tools or tech and a liminal space in which you have to figure yourself out as tools or instruments give you new degrees of power and possibility. making this track just made me really think a lot about my humanity becoming manipulatable data.
